Key Issue: Transportation
Now more than ever, it’s time to highlight transportation issues and think regionally and multi-modal: bicycles, cars, busses, light rail and pedestrian. I will work to expand the number of bike paths in the city, improve regional bus service, encourage the development of the east/west and north/south rail; and improve Ann Arbor’s pedestrian friendliness.

Thank you stopping by Sandi. We've been in this ward for 20 years and we're are seeing an increase in a growing problem. Our corner of Kellogg and Pontiac Trail is a perfect magnet for commuters with the 3 bus stops in close vicinity. Whew!! Trash pick up is a problem, leaf pick up is a challenge, street cleaning - forget it. If there is something, anything that can be done for residents who want to support alternative forms of transportation but not introduce a new problem: creating make shift commuter lots within the neighborhood, you will have a friend for LIFE. LOL We love watching the contributions you've made in the community through Trillium Real Estate.
Good luck with your campaign, Sandie!

We could look into residential parking permits for the neighborhood, however they come with their own set of complaints. Our area had many of the same problems as you describe which were mostly solved with the residential permit system.
We may also look at the area for a "sanctioned" commuter lot that offers some perks over the neighborhood parking scenario.

That sounds great. Can we start a conversation around getting this process started? I know you're campaigning now so if you want to point us in the right direction, that would be terrific.

The contact at the City to start the Residential Parking Permit process is Beverly Selvig at 994-4212.
AATA manages the Park and Ride lots (www.theride.org). Their website indicates that they are beginning to examine issues such as yours "...With several lots located within Ann Arbor, AATA is now turning its attention to the next Park & Ride phase - developing lots to intercept commuter traffic before it reaches the city. AATA has hired a consultant to develop a comprehensive, 20-year plan to detail the location, size and projected cost of five to ten Park & Ride lots surrounding the city. The plan will detail transit services needed for each lot, including route, frequency, span of service, projected ridership, change in projected ridership over time, and annual cost. Funding is not currently available to operate this expanded service. The consultant will lead an effort to inform and involve public officials, interest groups and members of the general public in order to create a plan with broad community support." You can reach AATA by calling 996-0040 or or by email at aatainfoATtheride.org.
